Kai's Biography
Kai Darby (born October 28,1991) , professionally known as Kai. She is an American singer and songwriter. Born in Mobile, Alabama. Kai Darby is one of seven children of Michelle Darby-Drinkard and Avid Coleman. As a little girl , Kai's passion for singing later served as inspiration for her to continue their musical journey. As Kai mentioned in a recent interview, She quoted " When I was younger, most of the people around me didn't notice me. But when I began to sing , my singing caught the attention of many people. They listened and it was here when I realized that looks really didn't matter to people. I began to embrace this voice I had inside my little , frail body."​

The musical lineage in Kai's family extends to some notable singing groups such as " The Drinkard Singers:, a gospel group known in the 1950s. Cissy Houston , known for her great works such as " Think it Over" and " Midnight Train to Georgia" was part of this group. It is said that Kai is a cousin of Whitney Houston due to having Drinkard and Darby in their bloodline. Darby's father involvement in the music industry was prominent as well, for he was a male hip -hop choreographer. Coleman performed at many shows and is known in surrounding areas as "Bodyrock"
At the age of 12, Kai had her first industry encounter with singer/songwriter Calvin Smith. Smith was also the Godfather of Darby. Faithfully, Darby and a friend would go and recite their music to Smith. And at this moment, he had given opportunity to Darby to sing in the booth.
Darby is inspired by a few of the greats in the music industry such as Brandy, Monica, and Aaliyah. She saw similar characteristics she shared with these icons such as them being great singers and being dark complex.
Kai attended B.C. Rain High School and took up activities such as choir and partaking in Talent shows. She then began working and paid for vocal lessons to enhance her vocals even more. At her youth, she was determined to be as great as those who have influenced her.

Kai began doing shows and small gigs thereafter. Her very first show was "very liberating". As she was struck with the pre-performance that's quite the norm for artists. She took the stage by storm and gave the audience something to look forward to. As Kai said in a recent Interview, she quoted
" I was nervous... And even scared! I was not expecting such a large crowd of people, and it was a full house of people celebrating me. But when I hit that stage there was a new feeling I have never felt before. The crowd was vibing out and then they went crazy! It was at that moment that I knew that is what I wanted to do all my life. Now here I am performing in places like Texas , Miami, and even Virginia. I am blessed and very grateful for the supporting fan base that I have now."

Kai signed with King Entertainment /Universal for a Distribution Deal in 2021 and released her latest single " Love Story" on August 13,2021. Kai has also worked with some of the biggest names Big Yayo "Let me Ride" and Jeter Jones "Daizy Dukes". Kai number one hit "Roll Wit it" streamed over 40k and that song is receiving radio play.
